Taste
The most distinguishing trait of this Mexican coffee is the soft, round body that just goes on and on without a break. A penetrating fragrance & a depth of character in addition to strikingly sweet notes make the Pluma a delicious treat for any palate. It especially makes for a good breakfast coffee.
Region
Grown in the Pluma region of the state of Oaxaca, this
Mexican coffee is considered the best by far. The Copalita
River basin provides ideal conditions for the farming of coffee
beans. 50,000 hectares of land near this Basin are under
cultivation for Arabica beans.
The high altitude, sea winds from the nearby coastal areas and
lack of any chemicals makes the Pluma possibly the best organic
coffee in the world. In addition, the coffee is shade grown and
manually harvested to ensure top quality beans.
The combination of nature and nurture gives the Pluma a wonderful sweet taste with little or no hint of bitterness. Also, given its fantastic body and aroma, this Mexican coffee is not getting its due within the gourmet coffee circles.
Currently, the huge benefit being enjoyed by the Specialty Coffee industry is the cheap rates at which Mexican coffee is being sold. It is like buying a glass of fine wine at the rate of a cheap cola. However, if the Pluma gets certified as a unique coffee variety by the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, the farmers can hope to reap richer rewards.
