Region
We all owe it to a goat herder from Ethiopia,
named, Kaldi, or that’s what the legend
tells us. It is said that this one man discovered
the awakening effects of the coffee plant
after feeding it to his flock. The news spread, and
quickly coffee became the drink it is today.
Ethiopia, today, remains one of the
worlds popular coffee growing
regions.
Ethiopian Yirgacheffee, unknown to many, is considered to be the finest of all Ethiopian coffee while many connoisseurs consider it the best tasting coffee in the world. The coffee comes from the Sidamo region in Eastern Ethiopia. This coffee is actually a peaberry, which means that the cherry produced only one single bean, instead of a pair of two flat beans. Because of this, all the goodness and flavor is left for the one, single bean. These peaberries are grown at high elevations, about 6,900 feet. The high quality beans are handpicked and then wet washed to give it a high acidity with a winey flavor. This coffee just might become your favorite, as you might not be able to resist the flavor reminiscent of a lemon peel, and the happiness that a fresh bouquet of flowers brings to you.
