As one of the largest inhabited islands in Indonesia, Java has been cultivating coffee since the beginning of coffee’s history. In fact the Dutch brought the first Arabica beans to this Island in the mid-17th century where they were they were cultivated and exported globally. Still today Java produces a large amount of the worlds Arabica beans. To be specific, there are 5 remaining Dutch estates that continue to export. Due to high regulations, the government of Java forbids any Robusta beans to be exported and only the finest Arabica beans will be sold as “Java Estate”.
