Taste

A smooth easy flavor, a gently rounded body and alluring aroma are typical of the Kauai Hawaiian coffee. The dark taste is balanced with a touch of sweetness that makes Kauai coffee a treat for the palate. If more intense beans like the Ethiopian Hararr suit your taste buds, you might want to give the Kauai a miss. This coffee is for those who love a gentle, mild coffee that lingers long after the cup is finished.

Region

The Americas While it’s more famous cousin, Kona, is better known in the gourmet coffee circles, Kauai coffee is nothing to sneeze at either. Kauai is fast becoming THE Hawaiian coffee. Many connoisseurs consider the Kauai cup to be somewhat similar to that of a Kona.

Kauai coffee is cultivated on the beautiful island of Kauai and hence its name. The warmth of the gentle Pacific sun, fertile volcanic soil and plentiful mountain water of Kauai create conditions that are near perfect for the growing of coffee beans. The Hanalei Valley located in the North of Kauai has the distinction of sporting the first Hawaiian coffee plantation.

Kauai is also home to the largest coffee plantation in all of Hawaii that has mechanical harvesters and a drip irrigation system as well. All Hawaiian Isles coffee is wet processed and harvesting generally occurs from September to December. The smaller coffee plantations on Kauai use the Kona method of cultivation.

The secret of the growing popularity of Kauai coffee lays in the carefully cultivated high quality Arabica beans. A uniform texture, gentle taste and beguiling aroma all make this coffee an unexpectedly exceptional cupping experience.
